Polytechnic Courses Eligibility

The minimum required qualification to get admission into a diploma course is to pass the SSLC/10th standard with a minimum of 35% in science and maths. The state board of technical education conducts entrance test for admissions to diploma programs in many states of India. After completing the diploma course the candidate can appear for LET (Lateral Entry Test) for admission in Btech/B.E programs. 12th passed students are also eligible for these courses, there is a list of other courses that students can take after their 12th.

Polytechnic Course Duration

Generally, the polytechnic course duration for the courses mentioned above is for 3 years. This course is generally taken after completing class 10th rather than choosing to do normal HSLC. HSLC is two years but diploma degree is 3 years. After doing a polytechnic course one can apply for B.E/BTech courses which people do normally after 12th and is 4 years long. But if you take admission in any of the engineering courses after diploma then you directly get admission into 2nd year of the course.

Admission Process For Polytechnic Courses

The admission process for all Polytechnic courses is merit-based depending on ranks and the marks obtained in class 10th. Since the admission process was started by the board on January 1, 2020. All the prospective admission seekers are informed that while applying the form for the polytechnic course, they must choose the preferred branch, and fill the correct information by understanding the instruction provided by the admission. They also select candidates via entrance examinations such as POLYCET.

Polytechnic Course Fees

Polytechnic course does not cost more like other courses like B.E, Btech, B.Pharm, etc. The fees for these courses are very affordable because mostly the polytechnic colleges are run by the state government itself. Therefore it becomes easy for the people belonging to the low-income group to afford the fees. They are usually around 10,000-12,000 per year. Although this may vary from college to college as government colleges have lower fees rate compared to other private institutes.

Lateral Entry in Polytechnic Courses

Students who have completed their 3 years Diploma program after class 10th can skip the first year and join second-year B.E/B.Tech programs with the help of exams or counseling conducted by state technical admission authorities or private universities.

Though diploma engineering courses may help in early exposure to the job market yet, you may miss out on a few opportunities due to a lack of a degree. In this case, you can opt for lateral entry in B.Tech and the course duration is of 6 semesters (3 Years).
